Meet Bryan University graduate Justin Tufts. Justin is a recent graduate from the Graphic Design program. Justin had worked in the promotional product industry for a while and had been self-taught or given lessons from other graphic artists he worked with. While he felt he had a good grasp of graphic design, Justin was interested in broadening his skill set and gaining a more profound knowledge of graphic design.
After being laid off from work when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Justin decided to look into going to school for a more formal education in graphic design. “I knew I would learn a lot from a degree program, and when I researched online programs, Bryan came up, and their program in graphic design really interested me.” Justin decided to start school and was able to find part-time work so that he could focus entirely on his coursework.
Even though Justin had knowledge, skills, and experience in graphic design, he found the program at BU to be extensive. “I felt like I knew a lot going into the program, but no, it was mind-opening how much I still could learn in programs I had been using for years.” While Justin had extensive training and experience with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, his courses with other Adobe programs were exciting and enjoyable. As someone already familiar with the industry, he knew that learning other programs in the Adobe Suite would make him more marketable when looking for a new job.
Justin also enjoyed that his courses didn’t teach just graphic design programs but the theories behind the different aspects of graphic design. Justin learned so much about colors, fonts, and all principles related to graphic design. “I was familiar with fonts and how they looked, but I didn’t realize there was so much more that went into the anatomy of the letters; I found it very interesting.” Justin could not believe how much he learned in such a short time. And the confidence he gained from going through his degree program has skyrocketed.
“My overall experience at Bryan was amazing.”
Justin also enjoyed the learning platform that Bryan utilizes for their students. He felt it was thorough and an excellent tool for students to stay organized and on top of their assignments. For Justin, the flexibility of the program was also a highlight. “One of the best parts of attending Bryan is that you can do almost everything on your own time and at your convenience.”
When Justin started at Bryan, he was impressed with how kind and knowledgeable the staff was and how smooth his enrollment process was. “I felt like throughout the entire enrollment process, I knew what was happening, and I never felt lost.”
Justin found his instructors supportive and tremendously skilled in teaching graphic design. His experience with his instructors was excellent, and they were wonderful about answering any questions he might have along the way. “Bryan makes it pretty easy and convenient to go online and just reach out to your instructor directly, and they’re always great about getting back to you in a very timely matter.”
Justin felt his experience at Bryan exceeded his expectations, and he is still in awe of how much knowledge he has gained. “I love how the program was put together, and even though it was an associates program, we got straight to graphic design courses from the beginning.”
