On Sunday, January 15th, we celebrate the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., and the federal holiday honoring his legacy on Monday, January 16th.
Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most influential leaders in U.S. history. He was also a social activist and a Baptist minister. He helped to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. He organized and led marches for black voting rights, desegregation, labor rights, and other basic civil rights.
Martin Luther King Jr. positively impacted the world by demonstrating peace in the face of violence. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech focused on the importance of treating everyone equally. He fought against injustice and promoted peace, nonviolence, and community.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a courageous man and left a mark on history. We encourage you to learn more about his legacy of equality, hope, and peace.
