Meet Rachael Dulebohn, a graduate of Bryan University’s Graphic Design program. Rachael was drawn to graphic design because she wanted a creative outlet that would generate income. Since graduating, she’s started her own LLC, Revelation Rose Designs, and is working as a freelance graphic and website designer while she continues her education with BU’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Concentration in Digital Marketing.
Rachael said her overall experience with BU was great from the start, with the first person she connected with answering all her questions and concerns. She said every department she interacted with made the process easy. “Financial Aid was really easy, they explained everything that went into taking out student loans.”
After graduating with her associate’s degree, she said deciding to attend BU for her bachelor’s was an easy next step and an easy transition into her next degree. “Out of all the schools I reached out to before BU, I would say BU was the most welcoming, and they’re very helpful. They give you that grace period to figure out if that’s what’s going to work for you. I think it’s really important so you can figure out if online school is right for you or not; BU gives you that option.”
Rachael said BU’s Graphic Design program makes you think like a real designer and prepares you for work in the real world. “I think that’s really important because, as a graphic designer, you have to figure it out. A client might ask you for something outside of the box. I liked that it gives you real hands-on experience with the field you want to be in.”
She loved the flexibility of the program and the instructors. “I really enjoyed my instructors here at BU; very welcoming, very friendly, very knowledgeable. They’re very approachable, too,” she said. “Rosetta, the Graphic Design Program Director, she’s very approachable and knowledgeable; very wonderful person to work and speak with.”
Rachael said she didn’t expect BU to be as inviting as it was and she learned more than she expected to. “BU just really captures all the background you need for each field you go into. They really capture what you need to know, and I think that’s super important. I didn’t expect to learn all the things I learned, like Photoshop and Illustrator. It was pretty eye-opening, and I really appreciate that BU did that.”
Her instructors were knowledgeable and there for her if she ever needed anything. “If you had an issue or something came up and you couldn’t meet a deadline, you could contact them, and they would help you. If you couldn’t figure something out, they would send you a video or set up a meeting. I really liked that it’s not just ‘here you go,’ they really help you every step of the way.”
Rachael’s advice for anyone thinking about going into graphic design, her advice is: “Absolutely do it. If you want to be freelancing and you want to be your own boss, this is the field to go into. It can be stressful and hard, but it’s a great field,” she said. “Just jump into it if it’s a creative field you want to go into. It’s rewarding because you get to help people get their business out there.”
