Bryan University Pharmacy Technician Graduate Spotlight: Kailyn Braden

Bryan University Pharmacy Technician Graduate Spotlight: Kailyn Braden

When Kailyn Braden enrolled in the Pharmacy Technician Undergraduate Certificate program at Bryan University, she was looking for a career change. She found BU while looking for a school that was the right fit for her and she says, “as soon as I looked into it I said ‘this is for me.’”

She said she went into it not expecting much from an online program, but her experience at BU was so good it surprised her.

“It honestly felt as if I was physically in the classroom,” she said. “I felt like being here at Bryan, I was able to be myself as a student and, overall, the program was easy to get through.”

From financial aid to career services, she said her experience with every department at BU was smooth.

“I felt like I would always get answers back in a timely manner and all my questions would be answered,” she said.

She recalled her experience learning from instructor Tiffany Jones, who she said was always available if she had questions and who really wanted her students to succeed. She especially liked that Tiffany didn’t just grade assignments, but provided detailed feedback.

“She really had a focus on the students and wanting the students to succeed. I felt like I was able to continue to pursue the career and continue to be successful because of her and the way that she spent her time with the students,” she said. “If you had any questions, she would take her time to help you out, even after a live class. If you had questions, she would sit with you for a little bit longer to help you, and I felt like that was very beneficial for myself.”

She said her favorite parts of the program were the labs and the at-home kit which gave her everything to get hands-on practice at home. The Pharmacy Technician Kit includes more than 50 items, like a mortar and pestle, an IV tubing kit, PPE, placebo capsules, tablets, syrup, and more.

“I feel like it would be just the same in person. I’m doing everything, everything was given to me that I was going to need,” she said. “It was as if I was right there getting the in-person instruction and in-person help.”

When we spoke with Kailyn, she just finished taking her PTCB exam and received a preliminary pass. She said after getting her official results she was going to get her state license and start applying for jobs.

Her advice to anyone thinking about taking the same program is be ready to work, but know that it’s worth it. She said planning out her study schedule and making flashcards, especially when it came to learning drug names, helped her stay on track. She also enjoyed using digital notes so she could access them on all of her devices.

She said the flexibility of learning online allowed her to plan out her days and fit her school work around her other responsibilities.
