Meet Jennifer Bledsoe, a Contact Center Agent at Bryan University. Jenn has been part of the BU family for just over two years, and she loves the company culture. “Everybody treats everybody with respect. You are seen as a person, not a number. Everybody has always been so friendly and inviting.”
In her role, Jenn is often the first point of contact for prospective students and she takes pride in being the initial representative for the university. She answers potential students’ questions and connects them with admissions representatives to get their BU journey started. In a role like hers, she understands how important it is to be authentic in her interactions.
“You can’t see me so you have to hear how genuine I am. You have to be true to yourself and that’s super important,” she said.
As part of her commitment to authenticity, she embraces the Core Value of Deliver Delight Every Time. “You go above and beyond, you make sure you do your job professionally, but at the same time, you’re building rapport with that potential student.”
Jenn loves getting to work from home and the flexibility it offers, after previously living with a commute that was over an hour long. She enjoys the team she works with and the admissions representatives she collaborates with. “The whole BU vibe, everybody is very warm and welcoming and willing to help.”
In the future, Jenn hopes to move into a supervisor role and to continue moving forward within the company. She draws inspiration from Tony Brazil, the Contact Center Manager. “Seeing how he shows up every day, how he gets the job done and everything he’s fought for for the call center,” she said. “I look up to him and his leadership. He’s honest and he’s transparent with everybody.”
Jenn’s advice to anyone just starting their career is to step out of your comfort zone, network, and be open to learning from everyone, no matter what stage you might be in. “Be open-minded. It’s okay to walk into a situation, and you don’t know everything right off the bat. It’s okay to learn and it’s also okay for you to speak up and to teach others.”
Growing up, Jenn said she was naturally more reserved and introverted, and she’s proud of the strides she’s made in becoming more confident engaging with others. “I’m always willing to learn something new. I’m always listening, always watching. I’m big on observing,” she said. “You watch, you see, you learn, and you ask questions.”
Outside of work, Jenn likes to spend time with her family and to get outdoors when the Texas heat allows it. She enjoys going to the gym, hiking, and going to water parks.
She’s passionate about all things related to babies, helping mothers and raising awareness about things like infertility and loss. She’s currently acting as a surrogate mother with a January due date. “It’s something I want to be able to give to somebody else. To be able to start their own family.” She would also love to become a lactation consultant one day.
Jenn would love to learn how to knit or crochet one day. She mentioned that, if she wasn’t a parent, she’d love to try skydiving or even wing-walking.
Her advice for anyone considering a career at BU: “Do it! It’s a good vibe, whether you live close to the university or you’re working from home, everybody makes you feel included. It’s a great work environment.”
