Bryan University Adjunct Instructor Writes and Directs Off-Broadway Play “Next of Kin”

We love to highlight the accomplishments of our Bryan University students, alumni, and employees. This month we’re celebrating General Education Adjunct Faculty member Charlotte Fiehn, who recently wrote and directed an off-broadway play called Next of Kin

Next of Kin, produced by Unscene Theatre Company, which Fiehn co-founded, just finished its run at the Chain Theater’s Brick Studio.

About Next of Kin

Next of Kin explores the complex and emotionally charged topic of chosen and biological family, reconciliation, and caregiving.

Set in a New York hospital waiting room, Next of Kin brings together Joyce Peters, a mother estranged from her daughter, and Hannah Markovitz, a professor who cares for that same young woman. When Joyce’s daughter, Keira, is critically injured, the two women are forced to confront each other and their own emotions. Over eighteen hours, they navigate grief, estrangement, and the complicated ties of chosen versus biological family.

Unscene Theatre Company

According to its website, Unscene Theatre Company is a women-led organization that spotlights new works and innovative productions from underrepresented groups. Its mission is to celebrate the art and independent theatre in New York City.
