What I want students to know: I have been in most of their shoes: going to school full-time, working full-time, being a parent full-time (single parent at one point), and trying to do it all.  We are not superheroes, although we often play that persona.  The situations that we put ourselves in are merely ours.  When it is something we are not familiar with, we tend to play the innocent or stick our heads in the sand to just accept the norm.  Speak up, be heard – Understanding is not excusing.
