Before personal trainers can customize a fitness routine for any client, they must take the client through a cardiorespiratory assessment. Proper testing helps personal trainers assure the safety of clients, and the information collected is valuable for framing a strategy for meeting future fitness goals.

In the third-installment of Bryan University’s Personal Trainer Series, Alison Bellais maps out the best methods for determining clients’ overall condition through the cardio-assessment:

  • Taking the client through a three-minute step test
  • Determining baseline and maximum heart rates
  • Identifying current fitness levels and targeting realistic goals
